Associate Music Director – St. Gregory the Great Church
Brief Job Description:

Support all aspects of liturgical music at worship in conjunction with the Director of Music Ministry as well as support for Youth Ministry music needs. Oversees with direction from Director the audio system in the Church and the Ministry Center.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
• Liturgical Music
o Responsible for the selection and implementation of appropriate liturgical music for:
– 5:30 pm Vigil Mass
– 12:30 pm Sunday Mass
o Responsible for the implementation of appropriate liturgical music to support the entire Parish including but not limited to either 8:00 am Sunday or 4:00 pm Vigil Mass, Holy Days of Obligation including Vigil Masses, Ash Wednesday Masses, the Holy Thursday Evening Mass, the Services on Good Friday, the Easter Vigil Mass, Parish Penance Services, Communion Masses, Confirmation Masses, Wedding Masses, Wedding Ceremonies, Funeral Masses, Memorial Masses and any other Parish events, retreats and/or programs (i.e Mission.)
– Meet with families, cantors, parish staff, ministry heads, etc. to review musical selections for special masses, events and programming.
o Plan, create and upload weekly “Prayer and Worship Guides” for all assigned daily/weekend Masses and liturgical celebrations in a timely manner or when scheduled.

• Ensembles:
o Directing and accompanying current Parish ensembles like One Way Home and Full of Grace (5:30 pm Saturday Mass September through June) as well as managing their scheduling.
o Responsible for the recruitment, development and direction of adult ensembles, ensemble leaders and cantors for the 12:30 pm Sunday Mass.
o Schedule necessary rehearsals for ensembles and cantors.

• Youth Ministry Support:
o Work collectively with Youth Ministry to support the ministry through music and audio/visual support (if needed).
o Design, develop and deliver selections of appropriate music for Edge, Living Stations of the Cross, and Youth Ministry Retreats as needed.
o Prepare content for implementation in a timely manner to ensure proper planning for execution.

• Day to Day Responsibilities:
o Music Library:
– Maintain files in the Music File Area, as well as digital files, for all contemporary music selected for liturgy, FIAT and Youth Ministry.
• Including but not limited to you filing, organizing, and keeping the area neat and clean.
o Licensing Support:
– Report all music selected for any liturgy, program, event, retreat, etc. to the appropriate license holder (i.e.CCLI, One License) on a monthly basis.
– Document all the appropriate copyrighted material on presentations and social media to ensure compliance with laws.

o Musical Instruments and Equipment:
– Support the selection of musical instruments and equipment used by the Parish.
– Responsible for routine maintenance and cleaning of Parish music equipment.

o Audio and Visual Support:
– Support the maintenance and use of Church video and audio equipment for liturgies and live stream broadcast.
– Provide audio and visual insights to support the Parish community.

o Required to attend all Parish and pastoral staff meetings and Parish events.

• Other Responsibilities:
o FIAT:
– Accountable for the execution of all aspects of FIAT events, in conjunction with priests and staff of St. Gregory the Great Parish.
– Responsible for the publicity of FIAT on the Parish website and other social media platforms.

Qualifications: Required Education/Experience:
• Education: Bachelor of Music in Sacred Music or Bachelor of Music with related experience preferred
• Experience: Minimum of 2-3 years of experience in liturgical music.

Desired Skills:
• High degree of proficiency in use of organ and piano, and a working knowledge of other instruments. Audio and visual equipment a plus.
• Ergonomic Requirements: The functions of this position usually are performed standing, stooping, kneeling, bending, crouching, light lifting, walking, carrying and other movements. Tasks involve working on a piano and organ and involve extensive hand, foot, and wrist movement. All individuals in this position are required to be able to perform these tasks without significant risk of injury to themselves or others, or to otherwise demonstrate or explain how they can perform the essential functions listed above; ability to conduct essential duties of the position with or without accommodations.
